What happens when your visa expires in Cambodia?

Each country will mark the validity period when issuing a visa to the applicant. The validity period is to set a time limit for the holder to return home on time. The holder must leave the country on time before the visa expires and cannot stay abroad for too long.

If the holder has a record of overstaying, it will be affected when applying for a visa from that country or from another country in the future. However, what should be done if the visa holder does expire in Cambodia due to some special reasons or the delay of the itinerary?

There are two types of visas available for Cambodia: tourism and business. The visa is valid for 90 days and can stay in Cambodia for no more than 30 days. No matter what kind of Cambodian visa type, under normal circumstances, the holder is not allowed to extend the exit time, to leave the country on time before the expiration of the visa.

If the holder fails to return home within the validity period of the visa on time and is found by the relevant departments that it is an illegal stay, the holder will be fined when leaving the country. If it has a negative impact on Cambodia or the stay time is too long, the serious person can be detained or repatriated.

If the holder is indeed unable to leave the country before the visa expires for some reasons, he needs to apply to the Immigration Bureau for an extension. As long as the holder has a legitimate reason, the holder needs to apply at least 10 days before the expiration of the visa validity period. Under normal circumstances, the acceptance time for Cambodian visa extension is about 10 working days.

We usually do not recommend that the holder apply for an extension of the visa, because many countries will be more concerned that the holder has applied for an extension, will doubt the purpose of the holder, resulting in a series of troubles.

In short, applicants should be reminded not to delay their stay in Cambodia as much as possible, to plan their itinerary reasonably, and to return home on time within the validity period and stay period.
