The Philippine Labor Department warned on Wednesday that employers must pay 13 salaries to employees on or before December 24.
Labor Minister Bienvenido Laguesma said that employers in the private sector must pay the benefits to their employees, which is equivalent to one month's salary for an employee.
"There are no waivers and deferments. By law, the 13th month of wages cannot be waived," Lagasma said in a radio interview.
However, he pointed out that employers and employees had the right to make special arrangements for the payment of 13 salaries, such as in installments. "That thing (about special arrangements for payments) is between the employer and the employee. They can come to an agreement. We haven't beaten the epidemic yet, but we need to understand the condition of the workers." Laguesma said. Employment benefits cover ordinary employees in the private sector.
They are entitled to receive wages in the 13th month, regardless of their position, position or employment status, and regardless of the manner in which they are paid, provided that they have worked for at least one month in a year.
