Medan Island, Philippines

In the south of the Philippines, there is the second largest island in the Philippines, Mindanao. Mindanao is also the 14th largest island in the world. The main terrain on the island is dominated by mountains and plateaus. The Mount Apo volcano in the west reaches 2945 meters, which is the highest volcano in the Philippines. The 400-kilometer-long Mindanao River is the largest river in the Philippines. The vegetation is dominated by tropical rain forests. The coastline is tortuous. Lots of peninsulas and bays.

There are many fault mountains and volcanoes on the island. Apo is an active volcano and the highest peak of the Philippine Islands. There are long and narrow coastal plains, vast fertile basins and large swamps. There is an animal sanctuary and a no-catch area for birds in the marsh area of the island. Philippine eagles also live in this protected area.

Davao City is the largest city in Mindanao and the third largest city in the Philippines. The population of Davao 80% has migrated from other places and provinces. St. Petero Street and Resland Street are the busiest places on the island.

There are the most Muslim groups in the Philippines on Mindanao, which are influenced by Muslim culture. Although Filipino Catholics are the main body, many mosques and Islamic-style buildings can still be seen.

There is also a large area of undeveloped fertile land on the island. Mindanao can be said to be the frontier of the Philippines. It was not until around 1939 that the population began to increase substantially. The main crops are corn, rice, bananas, mangoes and coconuts, coffee and cocoa beans. The timber industry also occupies an important position.
