On September 9, local time, immigration officers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in the Philippines intercepted a Filipino who showed a fake Belgian passport. The woman was suspected to be a victim of human trafficking.
The Philippine Immigration Bureau stated that the Filipino woman who was intercepted was pseudonym Josephine and was originally scheduled to travel to Elkan, Cyprus on September 5.
The woman initially showed her Belgian passport and told immigration officials that she would transit through Kuwait and eventually travel to Izmar, Turkey. However, when going through the departure formalities, the immigration officer noticed that there were many inconsistencies between her passport and the so-called entry stamp.
the immigration officer at the counter then referred the woman to the supervisor-on-duty counter for a second check.
laboratory examinations subsequently confirmed that the woman's passport, residence card and immigration stamp were forged.
Josephine finally admitted that he had a Philippine passport and had worked as a Philippine foreign worker in Israel. She also admitted that she was deported from Israel earlier this year because she did not have a valid work visa, but she saw a video on Tiktok claiming to provide an EU passport that allows visa-free travel to multiple countries.
It is reported that she contacted the TikTok account and paid 700000 pesos, and was subsequently promised to work as a caregiver in Greece for a monthly salary of 180000 pesos.
Josephine was immediately referred to the Inter-Agency Committee Against Human Trafficking (IACAT) for assistance and appropriate charges against her recruiter, the immigration service said.
