According to foreign media reports, Philippine Foreign Ministry officials said today (February 13) that Chinese criminals carrying out encrypted currency fraud in Southeast Asia targeted Filipinos and used their English and computer capabilities to cheat.

According to reports, Eduardo de Vega, acting undersecretary of the Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pointed out that Filipinos have become "very valuable" targets in the fraud networks operated by Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.

Di Vega alleges that Filipinos involved in fraudulent activities are being repatriated and at least 119 have been repatriated since last year. "we are gradually repatriating them, but some people have not asked to be repatriated," di wiga said. 」

The latest group of repatriated Filipinos arrived in Manila today. Di Vega told AFP that four men had been trafficked to Myanmar for "less than two months". They were all in their 30 s and were locked up in a fenced-up venue.

The Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement stating that the men were originally recruited on the Internet in Dubai and went to Thailand to serve as "customer assistance representatives 」.

Di Vega mentioned that when they arrived in Bangkok, they were taken to Mae Sot, a city in western Thailand, and crossed the border by ferry into Myanmar's "rebel range". They were "forced to trick individuals into investing in cryptocurrency" in Myanmar 」.

In addition, four Filipino women in their 20 s also returned to Manila today. They were detained in Myanmar a few weeks ago because they entered Thailand illegally. Divega said they previously claimed to be tourists.

Di Vega also said that about 50 to 70 Filipinos are believed to be still in Myanmar, working for the local Chinese who cheat. He estimated that another 50 Filipinos were engaged in encrypted currency fraud in Cambodia and another 50 were in Laos.

Last year's report found that people from all over Asia were involved in similar activities in Cambodia, including people from Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Bangladesh and India, and some were trafficked and beaten by fraudsters.

Di Vega pointed out that the Philippine government has repeatedly warned Chinese people not to bypass official employment channels when seeking overseas jobs.
