Philippine Immigration Bureau to rectify airport port department

On February 10, local time, Norman Chen Xingo (Norman Tansingco), director of the Immigration Department (BI), announced in a statement that it would stop its port business unit (POD). The unit's deactivation was based on a Department of Justice (DOJ) recommendation to restructure and streamline its airport service operational structure.

He said in a statement: "This will remove the centralized management of all airports and give the immigration department the authority and exact responsibility of the airport terminal heads, who are now directly responsible for the operation and management of their respective terminals."

The head of the immigration department added that before the reorganization, the port business department had a complex organizational system with many redundant and overlapping functions. At the same time, he noted that in his assessment, he saw accountability being watered down, with each responsible reporting to multiple superiors.

He said: "In this way, we will have a leaner management system and will be able to accurately locate problems and appropriately praise those who have done well. We also submitted the proposal to the Ministry of Justice on February 2."

Later, he said: "We thank Minister of Justice Jesus Remula (Jesus Crispin Remulla) for his support for our proposal. We thank him for seeing the wisdom of restructuring this problematic system, which requires new solutions."
