According to Philippine media reports, on November 1, Philippine Immigration Bureau (BI) officials rescued four suspected victims of human trafficking at NinoAquino International Airport (NAIA).
BI Commissioner Norman Tansinko said the four passengers, who were supposed to travel to Thailand, Laos and Dubai, were intercepted at NAIA Terminal 1 before boarding a Tigerair flight to Singapore.
Three of the victims took a connecting flight to Bangkok, Thailand, for a seven-day sightseeing tour they claimed.
"They later admitted to being employed as customer service representatives in Thailand and Laos through Facebook advertisements during the second survey, with a monthly salary of P50000."
The 4th victim, who was initially disguised as a tourist, also admitted in a subsequent investigation that her final destination was Dubai, working as a domestic helper, Tansinko said.
Victims are referred to the Inter-Agency Committee against Trafficking in Persons for assistance and further investigation to identify and prosecute their recruiters.
The Director of Immigration deplored the continuing criminal activity of traffickers using social media to lure victims.
