The Philippine permanent residence visa is not a "legal pass". If you commit these things, you will be expelled!

A British national in the Philippines suspected of involvement in gang activities, extortion, drug trafficking and other crimes has been detained by the Immigration Service (BI).

On Friday, Darren Mark Wall, 44, will be detained at the BI prison in the city of Taguig, while proceedings in his deportation case are still pending, BI Director Jaime Molente said.

Due to his marriage to a Filipino, Wall holds a permanent resident visa. However, he said he could still be deported if it proved he was an undesirable alien.

Last month, members of the police criminal investigation and detection team arrested Wall and his wife for assaulting foreigners at three different nightclubs in Makati. His modus operandi was to intimidate foreigners before extorting money.

"Wall violated the gun ban, disobeyed authorities, possessed dangerous drugs and threatened several people," the immigration service said."

Molente reminded foreigners living in the country to "abide by local laws," saying a permanent resident visa is not a "free pass" that ignores Philippine law ".

"They should still remain lawful and abide by local laws. Otherwise, they may be arrested, deported and barred from returning to the Philippines," he said.
