Consulate General in Davao reminds Chinese citizens in the consular area to guard against earthquake disasters

The Philippine National Disaster Reduction Commission reported on the 18th that the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that occurred in the southern waters of the Philippines on the afternoon of the 17th has caused at least 7 deaths and 2 injuries, and at least 450 people need medical assistance.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology announced on the 17th that a magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred in the waters near West Davor Province in the south of the country that afternoon, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers. Soon after, the institute adjusted the magnitude to 6.8 and the focal depth to 72 kilometers.

The quake was strongly felt in the southern Philippine coastal provinces of Sarangani and South Cottagbato. Damage to buildings and houses occurred in many parts of Mindanao, and aftershocks continued to occur in the area.

The Chinese Consulate General in Davao said on the morning of the 18th that it had not received any reports of casualties of Chinese citizens in the earthquake and reminded Chinese citizens in the consular area to guard against aftershocks.

Philippine President Marcos said on the evening of the 17th that the Philippine National Disaster Reduction Commission has launched an emergency response mechanism. He also instructed relevant government agencies to "act quickly" to ensure the safety of the affected people and provide them with timely assistance.
