What if I overstayed my visa in the Philippines?

The result of the penalty for holding a Philippine visa overstaying depends mainly on the length of the overdue period. The longer the overdue period, the heavier the penalty.

Overstay less than 6 months

The new Philippine regulations stipulate that people who have overdue their visas for no more than half a year only need to go to the Philippine Immigration Bureau to apply for renewal.

Overstay more than six months but less than two years

MR application needs to be submitted before it can be extended. This procedure takes two weeks to one month to complete. The fine is counted from the first day of overdue. At this time, the fine that needs to be paid is relatively large. Only after the fine is paid can the visa be renewed. At the same time, the requirements for obtaining ecc(Emigration Clearance Certificate) have been increased for foreigners who hold tourist visas to stay in the Philippines for more than six months.

Overdue 2 years

The penalty for this extension is high, and there is a risk of forced departure (OTL) or repatriation, which may result in a lifetime ban from re-entering the Philippines. If you are not repatriated or forced to leave the country, you will need to renew your MR fine visa, and the overdue fee will be 2 to 3 times the normal overdue fee.

According to Circular No. SBM 2013-003, Immigration Memorandum Circular, overstaying for 12 months or less, but exceeding the maximum length of stay allowed in the Philippines, may be blacklisted by the Immigration Bureau. At the same time, a fine of 4000 pesos will be imposed every month. This rule applies to foreign citizens who enter the country with a 9a tourist visa and an exemption permit.
