The bill aims to update outdated immigration laws and reform and modernize the existing legal framework for immigration policy in the Philippines. At present, the bill has passed the House of Representatives, pending the Senate's submission and approval. Once approved, the bills will be combined and submitted to the Office of the President for final approval. The most difficult House of Representatives has passed, and it is only a matter of time before the Senate approves and the president signs it.

01. What will be the main changes in the new immigration law?

For a long time, the Philippines has relied on the 1940 Act as a guide for immigration policy, but this has become anachronism. Therefore, the Philippines also urgently needs a new immigration law to replace Federal Act 613 passed in 1940.

Some of the main changes in the new Act are as follows:

1. Tourist sign:-According to HB No. 8203, which has not yet become a real law:

The 9(a)/Temporary Visitor visa in the Philippines is classified as "A visa", which is broken down into A- 1 visa, A- 2 visa and A- 3 visa.

-The new bill includes group visas (group visas) that cannot be converted to long-term visas.

-The new regulations for Class A visas are not much different from the existing regulations, except that group visas are written into the immigration law, indicating that group visas in short-term visas in the Philippines will become mainstream in the future.

2. Work signature:

-HB No. 8203 also reinterpreted the 9(g) visa (G visa) for travel to the Philippines for pre-arranged employment

-The new immigration law may make it possible to enter the Philippines directly after applying for a work visa in China in the future. It is no longer necessary to apply for a travel visa before transferring to a work visa.

3. Permanent residence green card:

In terms of immigration visas, under the HB No. 8203 Act, the amnesty visa increased the quota of immigrants per nationality from 50 to 200.

However, the bill has not yet been passed, and we need to further observe the specific provisions after the bill is passed.

02, the Philippines common permanent residence green card

At present, the most common permanent residence visa programs in the Philippines are: small amnesty asrv, amnesty immigrant sec13, Philippine retired immigrant SRRV, and Philippine investment immigrant sirv. Among them, the most popular green cards are the retired immigrant SRRV and the small amnesty ASRV, both of which have advantages and disadvantages:

In recent years, small amnesty ASRV has become the most popular Philippine green card project due to its advantages such as no age limit, simple handling materials and short cycle. The so-called trade-off, according to the new bill, the number of large amnesty places will be greatly increased. It can be estimated that the threshold for small amnesty processing will be increased. It is suggested that interested ASRV processing should be handled before the new bill is passed, and the bag is safe.
