The Philippine National Police (PNP) raided an offshore gaming operator (POGO) campus in Las Pinas late Monday night, rescuing more than 2700 suspected human trafficking victims.
According to the police report, 1192 foreigners and 1525 Filipinos were among the rescued victims. The rescued foreign citizens included 606 Chinese, 183 Vietnamese, 137 Indonesians, 134 Malaysians, 81 Thais, 21 Taiwanese, 7 Nigerians, 5 Singaporeans, 5 Burmese, 4 Yemenis, 2 Pakistanis, 2 Africans, 1 Indian, 1 Somalians, 1 Sudanese, 1 Cameroonian, 1 the Iranians.
The operation was jointly carried out by the Philippine National Police Capital District Police Department (NCRPO) and the Anti-Cyber Crime Team (PNP-ACG), holding search warrants issued by the local court to inspect at least seven buildings in a park on Alabang-Zapote Road.
Police said the local court has issued a Xinchuang Network Technology Inc. search warrants to search, seize and examine computer data on the Internet Gaming Company's campus. The company's registered management personnel are Liu, Chen, Lin and Wu.
"This was initially a human trafficking case. We understand that they are operating an online casino, but we will understand the legality of the company and investigate whether they are also involved in illegal activities such as love scams and investment scams," said Michelle Sabino (Michelle Sabino), a spokesman for the anti cyber crime team of the Philippine national police."
Most foreigners claim they were recruited through job postings on social media for customer service staff.
According to interviews with the victims, they claimed to work for an online casino with shifts from 12 noon to 12 midnight. According to the victims, only a few workers were allowed to go out, while those without papers or documents were not allowed to go out.
It is reported that the online gambling company provides accommodation arrangements for employees.
In terms of salary, Chinese citizens can get about 40000 pesos per month, while employees in other countries such as the Philippines can only get about 24000 pesos.
The rescued foreigners are collecting information, and the authorities will also contact the embassies of various countries to start the repatriation operation as soon as possible.
At the same time, the company's managers will face charges of violating Republic Law No. 10364, the Anti-Human Trafficking Act of 2003, and Republic Law No. 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
