Philippine Land Transport Agency announces extension of all driver's licenses until October 31

On April 21, local time, the Philippine Land Transport Agency (LTO) announced that it would extend the validity of the expired driving license until the end of October this year.

The Director of Land Transport, Jose Arturo "Jay Art" Tugade, said in a memo dated April 21, 2023: "All holders of driving licenses that expire after April 24, 2023 will no longer need to renew their licenses until October 31, 2023 or when their licenses are available for distribution."

"In addition, all penalties for late renewals will be waived," MR Twyardh said."

The latest move by the Land Transport Department comes amid a shortage in the supply of driving licence cards needed to make driving licences.

On Thursday, the Land Transport Department announced that it would print driver's licenses on paper due to a shortage of plastic driver's license cards.

"The Land Transport Department has made this decision because we do not want to burden our car owners. Please rest assured that everything the Land Transport Department does is in the public interest," said Mr Toutard."

The agency wants the Department of Transportation to quickly procure driver's license cards to speed up printing and distribution to drivers waiting to receive their licenses, Tourgard said.

All law enforcement agencies are advised to recognize the validity of driving licenses that expire from April 24, 2023.
