According to Philippine media reports, on February 16, several Philippine senators expressed shock at the alleged human trafficking at Nino Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Sen. Ronald Bato de la Rosa urged his colleagues in the Senate to assign an appropriate committee to immediately investigate alleged illegal activities, including possible human trafficking by the NAIA.

In the plenary hall, de la Rosa said he was "disgusted" by alleged corrupt practices by "certain NAIA employees and immigration officials" that allowed foreigners to leave the country "without pre-departure permits and other security and immigration measures".

"They (corrupt NAIA employees and immigration officials) are breaking all protocols and laws just to give these people VIP treatment, what a sickening incident."

In her privileged speech, Senator Grace Poe, chairwoman of the Public Service Committee, called for an investigation into the NAIA's alleged human trafficking program involving private jets and foreigners.

Poe said police and airport authorities had failed to prevent the February 13 flight to Dubai, which was carrying 10 foreign passengers. However, only seven declared before immigration officials.

She said a similar incident occurred in December last year in which an undeclared Chinese citizen bypassed a pre-flight inspection.

"This is not just a protocol failure. This issue involves national security and human trafficking because it involves deeper issues."

"Let's not let private flights at airports become highways for human trafficking."

Sen. Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito said the Senate must "delve into" the issue.

Senator Jingoi Estrada (Jinggoy Estrada) urged the need for a proper investigation and insisted that "those responsible must be revealed as soon as possible".

Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva also expressed disappointment, calling the incident "ridiculous" because several foreigners were allowed to leave the country without a departure permit and other security agreements.

The above-mentioned personnel boarded a plane with the tail number N9527 operated by a Hong Kong leasing company.

"We are not only talking about national security or human trafficking here, but also about accountability, which is also a matter of corruption," Villanueva stressed.
