Hontiviros cited the testimony of 12 Filipinos who were rescued from "syndicates" operating in Myanmar.

It is reported that they were recruited to work in high-paying jobs in Thailand. Companies in Thailand promised that they would work in a call center as customer service representatives. However, when they arrived in Thailand, they thought they would work there. As a result, they were abducted and sold to Myanmar and became "liars" using encrypted currencies against many countries such as Canada and the United States ".

According to Hontivros, if they don't commit fraud, they will starve, will not get paid, will be sold to other companies, and their lives will be threatened.

The group wanted an "all-Filipino team" of scammers because of their proficiency in English, Hontiviros said, citing statements from the victims.

"This is extremely important and urgent. These Chinese mafia are making the Philippines an incubator for scammers... we are not, and will never be, a country called scammers," Hontiveros noted.

Hontiveros called on the government agencies concerned to take action on the matter.

"I call on all of you, and all the government agencies that can help us: if we do not close this loophole, more and more compatriots will be cheated, and more and more people around the world will be cheated," she warned.

"So, fellow citizens, let's be vigilant when people we don't know send us messages, even on LinkedIn," the senator added.
