According to Philippine media reports, on November 9, local Filipino fishermen found suspected rocket wreckage in the waters near Kalintan, West Mindu Island, with a Chinese flag painted on it.
It is reported that Filipino fishermen found two pieces of debris in the waters near Kalintan on November 7 and November 8, which were towed to the shore of Yulongya Pobracion. Local officials, police and the Philippine Coast Guard are scheduled to meet on November 9 to discuss plans to deal with the debris.
The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) said that in July this year, debris from a rocket launched in China entered Philippine waters without control.
Last month, PhilSA advised the public to keep an eye out for falling rocket debris after the launch of China's Long March 5 B from the Wenchang Space Launch Center on Hainan Island on October 31.
Chinese authorities said the "projected unburned debris" could fall 72km from Masin Lockbeth (Landing Area 1) or 39km from Busanga (Landing Area 2) in Palawan.
PhilSA urged the public, especially fishermen, not to come into contact with rocket fragments they might find floating in the sea, as they could pose health risks, including exposure to toxic chemicals.
In a statement, Major Cherry Tindog, a spokesman for the military's Western Command, confirmed that information had been received about the debris.
The debris "did not cause any casualties and did not pose any danger".
"At present, appropriate inter-agency operations are under way to ensure proper disposal," the official added."
Asked if the recovered debris came from China's 1031 rocket launch, Tindog said it had not been determined by PhilSA.
