"We are paying close attention to the situation in Taiwan. We have received a notice from Taiwan's aviation authorities regarding the closure of specific airspace from 12 noon on August 4 to 12 noon on August 7. Our flight to and from Taipei today -- PR890/ 892 -- runs on schedule using a specified clear route," said Cielo Villaluna, adding that the airline ensures regular coordination with Taiwan authorities.

No flights have been affected so far, according to CEB's Carmina Romero.

"We are currently offering only one weekly flight (every Wednesday) for the necessary sailing between Manila and Taipei, Taiwan. We are monitoring the situation, but at the moment there is no change in our network," Romero said.

On the other hand, Philippine AirAsia has not resumed operations between Manila and Taiwan in September, depending on market conditions and travel restrictions.

"For security reasons, we will observe the no-fly zone in Taiwan's airspace on our way to other destinations such as Seoul, South Korea, until further notice," Steve Dalisan said.

Before the pandemic, Philippine AirAsia flew to Taipei and Kaohsiung from Manila, Clark, Cebu and Kalibo hubs.

Dalisan said the airline is eyeing the resumption of Cebu-Taiwan operations in November, while other flights are expected to fully resume in the first or second quarter of 2023.

According to reports, China has notified airlines to avoid relevant airspace due to military exercises from Thursday to Sunday.
