Earlier, the SAR government quoted the "Prevention and Control of Diseases (Regulation of Cross-border Transportation and Arriving in Hong Kong) Regulations" to implement the "circuit breaker mechanism" for regional flights in these nine countries, which was originally scheduled to be maintained until March 4.

As the local epidemic continues to be severe and a large number of Hong Kong residents have always returned to Hong Kong from these nine countries, the SAR Government will extend the "circuit breaker mechanism" for regional flights to prohibit all civil airliners from these nine regions from landing in Hong Kong, China, between March 5 and April 20 in order to avoid additional pressure on the medical system at the critical moment of containing the local epidemic, at the same time, it is restricted to those who have stayed in the above-mentioned areas for more than two hours within 14 days to board any civil airliner to come to Hong Kong to prevent people from relevant areas from transferring to Hong Kong.

At the same time, the "circuit breaker mechanism" for individual flights triggered by the discovery of input cases will continue to operate.

A government spokesman said that the "circuit breaker mechanism" for regional flights is an extremely rigorous emergency measure that will inevitably affect the return journey of Hong Kong people. However, in order to contain the epidemic as soon as possible, it is necessary for the government to continue the relevant arrangements to reduce the additional pressure on the local health care system.
