According to Philippine media, on October 27, the Philippine Customs Bureau foiled a case of suspected theft of Pasai warehouse, and 67 Filipinos and 10 Chinese citizens were arrested.
Reported that the warehouse involved because of the former Central Bank of the Philippines to crack down on "fake goods" was blocked.
The head of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), Verne Enciso, said it had received information that the theft was taking place at the Pasai warehouse, which the authorities had previously sealed off, and had previously obtained a power of attorney (LOA).
According to the information received, a team from the Intellectual Property Office (IPRD) of the Central Bank of the Philippines responded quickly to intervene in the illegal activities of the warehouse located in 112 M. Acosta St., Barangay 77, Pasay City.
Some 67 Filipinos and 10 Chinese nationals were arrested during the operation for tampering with the Central Bank of the Philippines seal and transporting confiscated illegal items from upstairs to ground floor. In addition, a lorry carrying confiscated goods was found nearby.
Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio said the suspect was immediately ordered to cease operations and will soon face interrogation proceedings.
Rubio said: "We must not only stop these illegal activities and the seizure of prohibited products, but we must also be at the forefront of ensuring that these seized items will continue to be in our custody until the case is concluded and we get instructions from the court how to dispose of them or liquidate them."
The Deputy Director of Customs Intelligence, Uvi Max (Juvymax Uy), assured that all the confiscated items had been identified through on-site verification.
The operation was carried out by the Law Enforcement and Security Services Rapid Response Team (ESS-QRT), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Bureau's Anti-Smuggling Operations Group (BATAS), the Public Information and Assistance Department (PIAD), and the local area.
