Latest visa-free policy of the Philippines for Chinese citizens in 2026 (updated in January, a must-see guide)

We bring you detailed analysis of the latest news about the Philippines, with a focus on the new visa-free policy for Chinese citizens in January 2026, to help everyone travel smoothly and avoid pitfalls.

I. Core Conclusion on Visa-Free Travel (Updated January 2026)

From January 16, 2026, the Philippines will implement a 14-day visa-free entry for citizens holding ordinary Chinese passports, on a trial basis for one year (until January 15, 2027), with an assessment upon expiration to determine whether to extend it; this is limited to tourism/business purposes, and entry is only allowed at Manila and Cebu airports. The stay cannot be extended or visa-converted.

II. Core Rules for Visa-Free Entry (A Must-Read)

  1. Effective Date: From January 16, 2026, for a trial period of 1 year, upon expiration, an assessment will be conducted to determine whether to continue;

  2. Applicable to: Citizens holding ordinary Chinese passports (official/service passports still require normal visa application);

  3. Stay duration: Maximum of 14 days per visit (calculated from the day following entry), non-extendable and non-convertible to any other visa such as work visa/student visa;

  4. Port of entry: Limited to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila and Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) in Cebu;

  5. Entry materials: Passport with validity ≥6 months (exceeding the departure date), ≥2 blank visa pages, confirmed round-trip/interline ticket (including flight number and date), and hotel reservation (optional).

III. Key reminders and penalties

  • Penalty for overstay: For stays exceeding 14 days, a daily fine of approximately 500 pesos (≈63 RMB) will be imposed. In severe cases, individuals may be repatriated and their entry restricted;

  • Long-term needs: If you need to stay for more than 14 days, or have work, study abroad, or immigration needs, you still need to apply in advance for corresponding visas such as 9A tourist visa, 9G work visa, SRRV retirement visa, etc.

IV. Policy Background

Previously, in November 2025, the Philippines had resumed the issuance of e-Visas, which also allow a stay of 14 days. The core purpose of upgrading the e-Visa to a visa-free policy this time is to boost local tourism and promote economic and trade cooperation as well as people-to-people exchanges between China and the Philippines.
