Are there many types of study visas in South Korea?

Everyone knows that there are different types of visas for each country. Applicants have to choose visas according to their own purpose of going abroad, but few people know that there are more subdivided types in each visa type. This is the case with Korean study visas. Applicants can apply for more corresponding types according to their requirements for studying abroad.

You can apply for three kinds of visas to study in South Korea, namely: language institute (language institute student visa) D-4, study abroad (undergraduate graduate student visa) D-2, short-term language study C- 3, as follows.

1.D-4 Language Study Visa:

Applicants for more than 90 days of language courses. If you have studied in the Language Education Institute for more than 6 months, you need to apply for a D4 language study visa, which can be extended at most once for up to two years within six months. It takes about a month to apply for a D4 visa from the Korean legal department to obtain a visa.

However, those Korean visa students with D4 will not be able to obtain an extension if they are absent for more than two weeks during the school period. After completing the language study, the D4 visa can be converted to D2 visa.

2. Long-term study visa D-2:

Applicants who wish to study at a Korean university need to apply for a one-year student visa (StudentVisa) from the Ministry of Legal Affairs of Korea. In South Korea, D2 visas can be extended for one year at a time.

3. Short-term comprehensive visa C- 3:

Applicable to applicants of language courses under 90 days. If the applicant wants to study Korean at the Language Education Institute, he/she can apply for a C- 3 visa (touristvisaorgeneralshort-termvisa) or a D-4 visa.

If you plan to study in the Language Education Institute for a semester, you can apply for a three-month C- 3 visa from the Korean Embassy (or Consulate) and obtain a visa directly. If the C- 3 visa is extended in South Korea, you need to go to the immigration control agency to change the D-4 or D-2, provided that the student's attendance rate during the study period exceeds 80%.
