According to Philippine media reports, on November 16, an Indian national wanted for illegal recruitment was arrested in Cebu City on the evening of November 14.
Staff of the Philippine Regional Police arrested the suspect Harjot Singh in Sitio Siwak in Yabura.
It is reported that the 5th Chamber of the Cebu City District Trial Court (RTC) has issued a pending arrest warrant for the alien. The court recommended bail of P 120,000 for Singh.
In a statement from the Cebu City Police Department, Singh was accused of defrauding at least 26 people who would find jobs abroad.
Prior to his arrest, the Central Visayan National Bureau of Investigation filed a lawsuit against Singh on charges of illegal recruitment. The suspects allegedly offered jobs but each job seeker was required to pay P 20,000 as a handling fee.
When the victims could not find a job despite paying a handling fee, they decided to ask the authorities for help. It later emerged that Singh was not a registered recruiter for the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.
