Pol Lt Gen said Pakpoompipat that foreign criminals are taking advantage of loopholes in existing rules, while acknowledging that some immigration officials may turn a blind eye to some foreigners' cash documents. "Therefore, there will be a working group to amend the rules for visa extension applications, which include working for the foundation, receiving medical care and studying in formal and non-formal education systems."

Zhu Wei emphasized that criminals use the Thai visa system by applying for student visas, but many of these foreigners are already 50 years old and do not meet the requirements at all. The director of the immigration department acknowledged that there might be a problem and said the bureau would revise its system.

"Foreigners who remain in Thailand with a student visa must hold a certificate from an educational institution. Therefore, educational institutions must do this correctly. The regulations of the bureau are already comprehensive, but all other organizations related to the extension of visas for foreigners must cooperate closely," he said."

In order to monitor real students and capture fake scholars, the immigration department requires local schools to submit a quarterly report on the educational achievements of foreigners holding student visas. In the absence of such reports, their visas will be terminated and foreigners must leave the country. Pakpoompipat Pol Lt Gen added that schools with foreign employees are also required to report regularly on the activities of these foreigners.
